Christian Missions Charitable Trust values access to education for all, regardless of gender, caste or religion. To this end, CMCT runs a Child Sponsorship Programme for disadvantaged children living in Chennai.
Sponsoring a girl or boy enables them to go right through school.
This gives them job opportunities and lifts them out of poverty.
The children have a hot, nourishing mid-day meal at school.
The cost of any transport to school, uniforms, bags, stationery and all educational materials (including examination fees) are also met.
Free medical and dental care is provided.
Basic hygiene items are also provided for the sponsored children at school and at home.
$50 a month to sponsor a child covers all these expenses.

In 2019, Stephen, from Auckland, visited CMCT. A couple of the CMCT sponsorship ladies took him to see the home of a sponsored boy. The boy's dad had recently passed away, and he and his mother were living with his paternal grandmother. His mother was the only earning member of the family. She was a maid and received a meagre wage. Two other people were living in the house. One was the boy's Uncle, who was blind and could only walk around on his knees. The other was his Auntie, also blind and unable to walk. She spent her days lying on the hard floor.
The grandmother said that her biggest worry was who would take care of her daughter when she (the grandmother) died. Stephen came away burdened for this family and wanted to do something to help if possible. The sponsorship ladies went back and talked to the grandmother. She said the biggest help would be if someone bought disposable nappies for her daughter to wear. She (the grandmother) was getting old and finding it difficult always to clean up her daughter's messes. Since then, Stephen has regularly given money to CMCT to buy nappies for this lady.
